September Guild Mtg. "My Passion with Pixels" with Dee Bushrod

Meet Dee Bushrod, our presenter for the September Guild Meeting.

Devida “Dee” Bushrod is a self-taught quilter with more than 18 years of experience and the creative force behind Pixel Quilts. Originally from Hampshire, England, Dee and her husband Jason, along with their two children, made Tulsa, Oklahoma, their home in 2005. Although they spent a few years back in the UK, they returned in 2020, happily settling once again in the place they now consider home.

Dee has made more than 60 traditional quilts, but she didn’t truly fall in love with the process until 2021, when her daughter encouraged her to try something different. Inspired, she created her first pixelated quilt — a Billie Eilish album cover — and immediately knew she had found her passion. Pixel quilting combines her background in marketing and design with her love of fabric and artistry, using technology to transform photographs into stunning, pixelated quilt patterns.

Since then, Dee has completed more than 50 pixel quilts, including a remarkable portrait quilt of Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. That quilt, with over 2,700 pieces of fabric and nearly 4,000 hand-stitched beads, was officially accepted by Buckingham Palace — an honor Dee treasures. She also launched a special project in 2022, creating twelve quilts honoring inspiring women such as Maya Angelou, Adele, and Oprah, gifting them to the women or their families.

Today, Dee travels the world sharing her love of pixel quilting through lectures and workshops. Her engaging presentations walk audiences through her quilting journey — from traditional beginnings to her vibrant pixel quilt creations — and inspire others to create personal, meaningful quilts of their own. *Pictures of her quilts are in the comments section
