About the event

'Echolocation' with FONTINE, Sam Tudor, and Corbin Spensley
Location: Knox Performance Centre

Start date & time: Feb 6th @ 7:00PM (Doors @ 6:30PM)

Dive into an emotionally charged night of indie rock that pairs gritty energy with deeply vulnerable songwriting. This show features a powerhouse voice paired with a melancholic narrator exploring genre-less sonic landscapes. Expect a blend of distorted synths, and poignant lyricism that explores identity, struggle, and catharsis. It’s a compelling juxtaposition of high-energy performance and intimate, heartfelt confessionals.

Fontine is Indigenous, queer, and a self-proclaimed “real goofy guy”. These things all inform her art. She is a road warrior, logging shows all year with her own project or as a collaborator with Boy Golden, Kris Ulrich, Begonia, Georgia Harmer and many others. Her latest full-length album, Good Buddy (a CB Radio code for gay), is a rock record with a mushy middle. It's beautiful and energizing, exploring pain, catharsis, identity exploration, self-doubt, activist frustration, people pleasing and friendship. Good Buddy is a departure from her breakout Yarrow Lover EP, which leaned into cleaner, folkier singer-songwriter tones. This new record finds her back with her trademark powerhouse voice and disarmingly vulnerable approach, but housed in a grittier shell. The album was recorded live to tape to be as raw and scrappy as possible.

Sam Tudor is both an individual and a project involving a group of friends in Canada. The underpinnings of his songs are genre-less - jazz players joining forces with Eno inspired beats while acoustic guitars meet distorted synths. What unifies the project is Tudor’s distinct voice: a sandy, melancholic narrator, leaning in close with confessional and cathartic writing. The band’s live show is reverent and at times bombastic—a celebration of community done with an easy virtuosity. Their latest release is their 2024 EP Hidden Minute.

Corbin Spensley

The first words that come to mind are raw, unpretentious, dynamic, captivating. There’s a rawness there... The ability to turn what starts delicately into something with a rough, nasally edge. Verging on a scream, but still clear as a bell. He writes songs that get stuck in your head because they’re catchy, but also because they’re true. He commits fully.
