Indivisible KC is teaming up with Stand-Up KC/ Missouri Worker's Center, Missouri Jobs with Justice, Missouri Voter Protection Coalition and many more partners around the state to fight the proposed plan to strip Kansas City of its US representative in Congress.
Right now, Missouri's 5th District is represented by Emanuel Cleaver, one of only two Democrats to represent Missouri in the US House of Representatives. The governor has been asked to convene a special session to redraw district lines to try to replace our Representative and increase the number of Republicans in power. This is a blatant power grab intended to make it harder for Democrats to regain power in the 2026 midterm elections.
For the next month, we are asking all Missourians to help us fight this redistricting effort. Here's the plan so far:
• Plan A: Pressure the Missouri governor to NOT call the special session at all by showing up at protests, calling his office, and sounding the alarm in the media. If the special session is called, pressure House and Senate members to vote NO to redistricting.

o Monday, September 1 - Protest, on the scale of No Kings. Maybe bigger. More information coming soon.
o September 10th- They are expected to vote on this issue Sept. 10, though this date is still TBD. We will plan to be in Jeff City to protest that day.
• Plan B: If it passes and new district lines are drawn, we have the ability to use a Citizen's Veto to challenge it. We would need to collect over 100k signatures in under 90 days. Then (according to my understanding) it would go to the citizens for a vote, which would take longer and require additional communication efforts for the next year. This is not ideal! Let's fight it now, before it gets this far!
