BIO
Daniel Simonsen is a Norwegian-born stand-up comedian based in New York City, best known for his sharp, awkwardly charming humor and deadpan delivery. He rose to international fame by winning the prestigious 2012 Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, one of the most respected honors in comedy.
Simonsen began performing stand-up in 2004 in his native Norway before moving to London to advance his comedy career. His show “Champions” at the Edinburgh Fringe earned rave reviews and helped him land high-profile gigs, including supporting Simon Amstell on his UK tours in 2012 and 2015. Daniel also made an appearance on Russell Howard’s Good News in 2012, sharing his unique style with a larger audience.
Over the years, Daniel has won and been nominated for several awards, including Chortle Best Newcomer, Best Comedian at Comedy Fight Club, and recognition from the So You Think You’re Funny competition. His offbeat delivery and clever writing quickly made him a favorite both in the UK and internationally.
In addition to stand-up, Simonsen appeared as the character Erik in the BBC sitcom House of Fools, gaining a loyal TV audience. In the United States, he has performed on major late-night shows including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Late Night with Seth Meyers, bringing his dry humor to millions of viewers.
Currently, Daniel Simonsen performs all over New York City at shows like Knitting Factory, Wyatt Cenac’s Night Train, Ghandi Show, UCB Theatre, Slipper Room, Tribeca Comedy Lounge, and The Creek and the Cave. His sharp wit, understated style, and international perspective make him one of the must-see comedians on today’s NYC comedy scene.
