In an immersive and transformative performance unlike any held at Potsdam Public Library, ROUST Records Presents . . . Scott Amendola, Nels Cline, and Phillip Greenlief, Tuesday, September 23, at 7:30PM. $10 Door, no one turned away.
Amendola, Cline, and Greenlief have collective and individual histories that span three decades and many continents. Their approach to free improvisation is to explore the many genres of music they are known for, which spans rock, metal, funk, jazz, post-classical and film music.
Previously slated to perform with contrabassist Trevor Dunn, who was unable to attend due to a family emergency, they are now joined by Cline, founding member of the Nels Cline Singers, Wilco member and so much more. Cline has been anointed by Rolling Stone as both one of 20 New Guitar Gods and one of the top 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
Greenlief, a saxophonist and Bb clarinetist whose work ranges from conventional jazz soloing to composed classical recitals to free improvisation and outright sonic experimentation, returns to PPL following an impressive July solo performance. He has performed and recorded with They Might Be Giants, Wadada Leo Smith, Meredith Monk, and Rashaun Mitchell since his emergence on the west coast in the late 1970s, achieving acclaim for his collaborations with musicians and composers in the post-jazz continuum as well as new music innovators and virtuosic improvisers.
Amendola, an in-demand composer and improviser who has revitalized the drumset with live electronics, has collaborated with guitarist Nels Cline since the mid ‘90s, including as a member of The Nels Cline Singers. As a sideman, Amendola has performed and recorded with a vast, stylistically varied roster of artists, including Bill Frisell, John Zorn, Mike Patton, John Scofield, Cibo Matto, Wadada Leo Smith, Sex Mob, and Julian Priester.
The trio's tour also follows the release of Greenlief's latest album, Citta Di Vitti, on Potsdam's avant-garde record label, ROUST Records. The album consists of original compositions inspired by the 1960's film trilogy of Michelangelo Antonioni starring Monica Vitti. Find it at
