Banned Book Week - Right to Read Silent Book Club

The Right to Read Silent Book Club is a community gathering where neighbors, students, and book lovers come together in quiet solidarity to celebrate the simple, radical act of reading freely. Inspired by George Orwell’s 1984 and the 2025 Banned Books Week theme, this event transforms reading into a form of civic engagement and resistance to censorship.

By holding it outdoors on the lawn in the downtown revitalization area (with the bookstore as a cozy backup space), the event becomes both visible and symbolic—a demonstration of the community’s commitment to intellectual freedom and the right to read. Partnering with the public library further underscores that reading is a shared, public good that belongs to everyone.

Location: Downtown revitalization lawn (inside bookstore if it rains).

Date: October 8

Timing: Evening or late afternoon—golden hour light adds warmth and visibility. 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
