WORSHIP SERVICE: "To Honor the Land"

In recognition of Indigenous People's Day, Rev. Norm and the Wabanaki Ally Team revisit the congregation's commitment to restorative justice and explore how that commitment is present throughout the life of the church. Passamaquoddy drummer Harley Bassett joins us for this celebration of the land and its stewards.

Harley Bassett is a proud member of the Passamaquoddy tribe. He is from the saltwater reserve of Sipayik (See-by-ick) which is recognized by the state of Maine as Pleasant Point and also has deep ties to the freshwater reserve in Motahkomikuk (Me-dock-me-goog) also know as Indian Township. "I have been singing, drumming and participating in ceremonies since I can remember. The drum was gifted to me by my grandmother who would always tell me that these songs are medicine and it’s more then just an instrument; it’s a form of traditional healing and it’s customary in our gatherings. Knowing these songs and with the guidance of my community I have been able to connect with so many beautiful people from all walks of life. It’s an honor and a privilege to share this space here with you all today."
