Dive into Sound Waves, the dynamic season-opening concert that celebrates both the elemental power of water and the vibrant energy of music itself. Referencing not only Maine’s lakes, rivers, and rugged coastline, but also the audio sound waves that move and shape us, this immersive experience honors water as a source of life, inspiration, and identity in Maine. Performed on the one-of-a-kind Kotzschmar Organ—an instrument as bold and beautiful as the landscape that surrounds it—this program, led by Portland Municipal Organist James Kennerley, transforms Merrill Auditorium through music, light, projection, and movement. With original improvisations and a water-inspired program, you’ll be transported by sound in all its forms, and experience music in a deeply sensory and unforgettable way.
