Olympia, WA based pianist, composer, recording artist, radio host, and film composer, Scott Cossu has been performing worldwide since 1980, and was one of the first artists to join the Windham Hill Record Label started by Will Ackerman. He was on the label for 19 years before Windham Hill was sold to Sony, receiving stellar reviews for his 10 chart topping albums. During this period, Scott toured with label mates Michael Hedges, Alex De Grassi, George Winston, and others. He has performed around the world and has very fond memories of sold out shows in Spain, Canada, Costa Rica, England, Chile, Italy, and Germany, as well as many in the US. His compositions have been included on dozens of Windham Hill samplers.
Scott graduated from the Ohio University School of Music, as well as from the University of Washington with a degree in Ethnomusicology. In 1990, Scott received the NAMA Music Award for Best New Age music act. In 2000, he was given the “Achievement in Music Award” from Ohio University, an honor given once a year to an OU graduate who has made outstanding contributions in music. In 2010, the world’s largest printed music publisher, Hal Leonard, published a solo piano songbook which included Scott’s composition, Purple Mountain, alongside compositions by John Lennon, Beethoven and Duke Ellington.
Most recently, Scott released his 16th recording, “Memories of Water and Light” - a trio with piano, cello (Holly Reeves) and guitar (Van Manakas). It is his second recording on the Heart Dance Records label. His first “Safe in Your Arms” was nominated for Best Piano with Instrumentation 2015 by Zone Music Reporter. Scott has also been nominated twice by One World Music Radio for a Lifetime Achievement Award. Scott continues to perform and compose new music, tour, and enjoy life with his family in the Pacific Northwest.
