...celebrating all Virgos and Blake’s 60th trip around the sun!
Oakland’s genre-bending Post-Latin Surf-Cumbia outfit Carne Cruda returns to Arena Theater, delivering an unbridled mix of surf, cumbia, son, soca, ska, and rock with the raw energy that has made them festival favorites worldwide. Produced by four-time Grammy®-nominated Greg Landau (Susana Baca, Maldita Vecindad), the band’s sound has been described as “ska, rock, cumbia, funk, soul, surf—all with a relentless Latin pulse.”
Formed in the San Francisco Bay Area, Carne Cruda’s evolution from a joyful party band into a world-touring musical force has included collaborations with Ms. Lauryn Hill, Omar Sosa, Tito Puente Jr., Quetzal, Susana Baca, Kepa Junkera, and many others. Their single “Taco Trucks on Every Corner” received national attention on NPR.
Their latest album, Oakland’s Tight, was recorded in a single day—ten tracks laid down live, showcasing the group’s high-level musicianship and chemistry. The record features an impressive roster of guest artists, including Cuban jazz pianist Omar Sosa on “Chuleta”, Dandha da Hora (SambaDá) reimagining Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”, Kevin Masaya Kmetz (Estradasphere) on shamisen in “Shark Attack!”, and Marta Gonzalez (Quetzal) adding distinctive vocal layers.
Carne Cruda’s tours have taken them from California clubs to massive festival stages, including a performance before 80,000 at Beerfest Belgrade in Serbia. Their “post-Latin” label reflects their genre-blending approach—creating music that’s equally powerful for listening or dancing.
