Have you ever wondered where the tradition of the Witches’ Ball ornament came from? ✨🧿
These beautiful little globes aren’t just pretty décor — they are one of the oldest forms of folk magic, dating all the way back to the 1600s in England and later throughout early America. Families would hang these glass spheres in their windows and doorways to:
✨ Trap negative energy
✨ Protect the home from ill intentions
✨ Bring good fortune, health, and peace
The reflective surface was believed to confuse and repel anything harmful, while the herbs and charms inside acted like little spirit helpers, guarding the threshold of the home.
Traditionally, Witch Balls were filled with:
🌿 Spruce for resilience
🌿 Holly for protection
🧡 Orange for prosperity
🌬️ Written intentions
🔮 Charms, brooms, or protective symbols
🍊 Winter botanicals and dried citrus
In our modern practice, they’ve become a lovely blend of old-world magic and new-year blessings — a way to set intentions for the winter season and invite warmth into your home.
On Tuesday, December 16th, we’ll be creating these enchanted charms together at Enchantments.
Every detail of your ornament will hold meaning, energy, and intention.
🕯️ One part history
🪄 One part spellwork
✨ And entirely heart-led magic
I can’t wait to create these with you.
