About the Event:

Join Dr. Fred Dunford, archaeologist and expert on Cape Cod's history, for a captivating journey through time as he reveals the secrets of Wing Island. Over the course of eight years, Dr. Dunford led an excavation on this 40-acre tract, uncovering a rich cultural history that spans over 9,000 years. From the earliest inhabitants, ancestors of the Wampanoag people, to its later role in the 1640s when it was bought and sold by Plimoth colonists, Wing Island has been a silent witness to the dynamic cultural evolution of Cape Cod.

During this presentation, Dr. Dunford will share the fascinating discoveries from the Wing Island archaeological project and bring to life the story of "old Cape Cod." Don't miss this opportunity to explore the island's untold history and gain insight into the deep roots of the region’s past!

Speaker Bio:

Fred Dunford, PhD, is the museum's horticulture lead and spends time working in both the English Village and the Historic Patuxet Homesite. A graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Dunford earned his doctorate in anthropology at University of Massachusetts Amherst. He is the co-author of Secrets of the Sand: The Archaeology of Cape Cod.
