Elmwood Cemetery Presentation

Step through gates of one of Detroit's oldest cemeteries with Amy Elliott Bragg, a long-time Elmwood tour guide and cemetery lover who will share a personal history of her fascination with cemeteries and present a general history (and future!) of Elmwood and its place in a broader story about American burial trends and landscape design ideas in the 19th century.

Bio: Amy Elliott Bragg is a writer, speaker and public historian who loves to tell lesser-known stories about Detroit's urban life, architecture, infrastructure, and innovation, especially from the era before the automobile. She is the director of the Historic Elmwood Foundation at Elmwood Cemetery, where she leads the community-facing activities of Detroit's oldest rural cemetery, including its energetic tour program. A former journalist, she continues to write about Detroit history in her newsletter, the Little Detroit History Letter (belong now at: https://littledetroithistoryletter.substack.com/)
