Discover one of the earliest photographic techniques while surrounded by the beauty of Graylag Nature Preserve. In this beginner-friendly, hands-on workshop, we’ll explore the grounds to gather natural materials like leaves and flowers, then use sunlight and light-sensitive chemistry to create blue-toned prints. You’ll learn how to create exposures on paper or other natural fiber materials using light-sensitive chemicals, arrange your compositions, and rinse your prints to reveal the final images. This historic process, invented in 1841 and popularized by botanist Anna Atkins, is a wonderful introduction to alternative photography and a perfect way to capture the textures of the season. All materials are provided, and you’ll leave with a set of original cyanotype prints to take home. No prior experience necessary—just bring your curiosity!
