DRAG STORY HOUR LAUNCHES “QUEER VISITORS”:
A NEW BOOK CLUB FOR LGBTQIA+ ADULTS
Literary drag salons rooted in queer joy, community, and classic storytelling begin Fall 2025
NEW YORK, NY — July 2025 — Drag Story Hour, the beloved nonprofit known for bringing inclusive storytime to families around the globe, is proud to announce its newest program: Queer Visitors, a national book club series for LGBTQIA+ adults.
Part literary salon, part community circle, Queer Visitors blends literature, drag, and chosen family in joyful, genre-bending ways. Beginning Fall 2025, the program will feature seasonal book picks, virtual author events, themed drag programming, and partnerships with libraries, bookstores, and cultural institutions across the country.
The program’s name, Queer Visitors, is a nod to L. Frank Baum’s 1904 comic strip, Queer Visitors from the Marvelous Land of Oz—a historical artifact where “queer” meant magical, marvelous, and different. Today, that spirit lives on in the community reclaiming Oz as a place where outsiders become heroes and self-discovery is the real magic.
“Our signature Drag Story Hour events have always celebrated literacy, imagination, and inclusion,” said Jonathan Hamilt, Communications Director and a co-founder of Drag Story Hour. “Queer Visitors invites grown-up readers into that same magical world—just with more nuance, more glitter, and deeper conversation.”
