Join Te Hoiere Project on Sunday, 14th September in Havelock for a planting and hui—all about restoring the mauri (life force) of the Motuweka/Havelock Estuary. This is a family-friendly event, so grab your whanau and gumboots.
Restoration planning has been underway between Ngāti Kuia, Rangitāne, Marlborough District Council, Department of Conservation, Marlborough Marine Farm Association, Port Marlborough, and the Havelock community. This planting marks the end of restoration planning with 2,000 seedlings to plant, followed by a community discussion about the estuary's future.
10am-12pm - Havelock Marina "the mole"
Parking kindly provided by Johnson's Barge Service.
A community planting of 2,000 Juncus Kraussii (Sea Rush) at “the mole” in Havelock. These eco-sourced plants have been grown by Ngāti Kuia, with these plants found in salt marshes and estuaries around New Zealand.
12.15-1.30pm - Havelock Hall
Hui and lunch to talk about the restoration planning that has been underway, and what’s required to take action for the estuary’s future.
