Specifically for beginners, this outing will give you a sense of what mindfulness meditation is, how to practice, and why it's worth the time. Expect a friendly vibe without the formality found in many meditation sessions.
After meeting each other and experientially delving into the topic, we will explore the practice while strolling through the Wissahickon. Our trek will be around 2 miles, at an uncommonly gentle pace. Readings along our walk will draw from Jon Kabat-Zinn (the pioneer of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction), Thích Nhất Hạnh, and Annie Dillard.
The meetup location is the picnic area just off the parking lot at Blue Bell Park. Feel free to arrive as early as 2pm if you want to hang and chat before we begin!
