Have you ever wanted to learn how to curl? Perhaps seen it on the Olympics and thought it looked fun?
Well now is your time to have some fun and try it out! Kat and I have reserved the ice for a Friday night session. The cost is $20 per person. You can pay via venmo or by cash.
When we first start up, there will be a quick intro to curling in the warm room and then we will break up into 4 groups to go over the basics. Once that is done, we will split into teams of 4 and play a few games. Depending on how many people are there, we may be able to have a mini tournament of sorts
Wear some warm clothes and bring a pair of sneakers or similar shoe to wear on the ice. Jeans are not recommended, and heavy boots/shoes that could scratch the ice are not allowed. see below for more details on what to wear.
Bring whatever you'd like for food and snacks.
Note that all drinks (alcoholic or not) must be purchased through the club bar. (Don't worry, the drinks are not expensive at all).
Please arrive 15 min or so before the start time to sign waivers and get ready. We will start at 6pm.
FAQ on curling
*How do I avoid slipping on the ice*
Most curlers eventually purchase their own curling shoes that have grippers built in. However, for those that do not have them yet or first timers, the club supplies rubber bands to put on your sneakers which will help you maintain grip on the ice.
*What should i wear?*
When curling, you will want to dress in layers. It is common for participants in Learn to Curl and Rental Experiences to become cold during instruction time but quickly warm up during practice and game play. You will specifically want to consider extra socks, gloves, and a hat. In addition, clothing should be flexible (stretchy), but sufficiently fitted to avoid dragging on the ice or causing tripping hazards. Jeans are typically difficult to wear and often rip when curling. It is highly recommended that you bring a separate pair of very clean athletic shoes to wear on the ice to reduce the time needed onsite to clean your shoes. Please also avoid wearing apparel that sheds or contains sparkles/glitter as these materials will contaminate the ice surface. No footwear that has sharp edges or parts that could damage the ice will be allowed on the ice.
*I don't know if I will be able to curl due to xxx pain*
For individuals with joint, back, knee, hip issues or other conditions limiting flexibility, we recommend trying the stick delivery style. As opposed to pushing out in the traditional style release, you hold a delivery stick and simply walk forward. Very similar to shuffleboard.
*I don't want to actually curl but would like to attend and watch*
Not a problem. We have a dedicated warm room with a bar where you can watch the matches.
