The Mariposa Museum warmly invites you to a special evening of dialogue, reflection, and community as we launch the weeklong residency of the Tibetan Monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery.
This event begins with a 45-minute conversation between two extraordinary guests:
Dr. Victor Chan, renowned scholar, author, and close friend of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for over 50 years. Dr. Chan’s journey into Tibetan culture began in 1972 when a chance meeting with the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala profoundly shaped his life and work. Over decades of travel and research across Tibet and the Himalayas, he has become a leading voice in fostering global understanding, compassion, and cross-cultural dialogue. He co-authored two books with His Holiness and continues to inspire audiences worldwide with his insights into Tibetan spirituality, wisdom, and cultural preservation.
Dr. David Baum, Conversation architect Dr David Baum guides conversations to transform for good. Clients include Oprah, Jane Goodall, HH The Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King III and Arndrea Waters King, Ken Burns, the Philadelphia Flyers and a host of fabulous organizations, world changing projects and country presidents. Whether in the jungles of Ecuador, the Himalayas of India or the board rooms of fortune 50 companies, he wakes every morning with a key purpose—to create meaning for himself and others through connection and conversation.
Their dialogue will explore themes of spirituality, culture, human connection, and the pursuit of wisdom, offering an inspiring reflection on how dialogue and understanding can foster compassion in our daily lives.
Following the conversation, guests are invited to a reception with refreshments, providing an opportunity to engage with the speakers, connect with fellow attendees, and prepare for the monks’ upcoming residency.
This event serves as the Prelude to the Sacred Arts, a special launch for the Tibetan Monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery’s weeklong visit, beginning September 2nd–7th, during which the monks will create a Sacred Sand Mandala, offer blessings, and share Tibetan Buddhist culture with the community.
