On Saturday, 9 August at 6.00pm, I will be hosting another special and intimate 2 hour kirtan and sound healing event in my cosy yoga studio in Inglewood to celebrate the studio's 6-month birthday.
I am look forward to sharing my love of sound and bhakti yoga with you. We will be chanting some mantras close to my heart and close the practice with an immersive sound bath, where we will dive deep into the potent effects of sound healing. There will be the harmonium, crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, a native American flute, tongue drum, ocean drum, swinging chime and rain stick with vocals.
"Chanting is a way of getting in touch with yourself. It's an opening of the heart and letting go of the mind and thoughts. It deepens the channel of grace, and it's a way of being present in the moment." Krishna Das
What to expect with Kirtan
In Sanskrit, Kirtan means to praise or glorify the Universe, its creation or the Divine Gods and Goddesses. We call upon the energy and symbol of the deities, and channel what they represent to our lives in the moment.
Kirtan is a collective creation of community and most commonly done by singing in a call-and-response format. It's not about performing or sounding perfect. It's simply tapping into the heart and freely expressing from there. We feel the vibration of the sound, listen to our hearts, let go, surrender and express however we need to - whether it is to sing, clap your hands, dance or be still. Together with others, we generate healing energy, open our hearts, uplift our spirits and cultivate inner peace. We devote ourselves to something bigger than us, connect deeper to what's around us and release our egos in the process.
Why practice kirtan?
Kirtan is a potent devotional and spiritual practice with the intention of releasing and removing negative energy. The mantras sung are sacred and help connect us deeper to our Selves. When we sing from the heart, we slowly let go and everything else around fades - our surroundings, our thoughts...and our worries. Our sense of separation subsides and we feel a deeper connection to our soul. The beauty of the practice being done collectively is that we absorb into uplifting energy of the vibration of the music and those around us. When we experience this, we feel a sense of peace and harmony. We move from doing and thinking to simply being there, completely present in the moment...and we experience feelings of bliss and joy.
The studio is a very cosy and homely studio with enough space for about 14 people so spots are very limited.
Tickets are $25 for this event.
