Returning to the Ellington once more, local pianist Bob Tweedie is presenting an evening of original music in style. Armed to the teeth with a band of local weapons, he presents two sets of thoughtfully crafted and strikingly sincere melodies. Driven by his love for the natural world, this project aims to hold a microscope to life itself, and attempts to capture the feeling of grandeur and scale that arises from truly observing the world around you. To bring his original vision to life, he has gathered a collection of highly-accomplished thrillseekers, who will be sure to stun with sensitivity, attention to detail, and raw energy. Playing both highly-calibrated compositions written up to four years ago, and never-before-heard works ready to be tested to a curious audience, Bob weaves these elements together to create a congruous and satisfying experience. Bob Tweedie is a 25 year old jazz pianist who is highly active in the Perth scene. After graduating from WAAPA with First-class Honours in 2022, he has dived right into new creative projects, such as leading his own trio (Colourful Zoo Magic), and playing with the original jazz collective Bad Neighbour, as well as all manner of creative and diverse local projects. He has been fortunate to play alongside Linda May Han Oh, Chloe Rowlands, and Sara McDonald’s NYChillharmonic. He was the 2025 Assistant Music Director for the Western Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra, and has studied Big-Band arranging under New York-based composer Steven Feifke. His biggest musical influences for his composition and playing are currently Sullivan Fortner, Tigran Hamasyan, Aaron Parks and Brad Mehldau.
