Peia Luzzi is an American born song collector, writer and multi-instrumentalist based in the mountains of Appalachia. Like water from a deep well, she draws inspiration from her ancestral roots of Irish and Old World European folk music. Peia’s voice dances nimbly from Child Ballads and 17th C. Irish laments, to Scottish Waulking Songs, and Bulgarian mountain calls. She has traveled & studied extensively over the past 12 years to reconnect with her own ancestral song tradition, uncovering melodies wrinkled & wise with time while taking care to honor their language and stories, Peia brings a piece of herself to each song she carries. "She uses bowed acoustic bass, harmonium, bodhran and charangon to generate an otherworldly ambience. Peia sings like a stringed instrument, creating countermelodies that dance through the arrangements with an air of blissful sorrow." -Downbeat Magazine With live performance often described as timeless and transcendent, the trio transports audiences through hypnotic rhythms & soaring ethereal vocals, accompanied by Peter Klaassen on double bass & Liron Meyuhas on percussion Along with song gathering & writing songs that speak to the heart of our times, Peia’s passion lies in guiding others to discover their own authentic voice, expression and connection to ancestral song tradition.
