About Maggie Lindemann

HEADSPLIT as a title came to Maggie late in the process. “On the one hand, and in the eyes of so many people out there, I'm so happy and everything's perfect,” she says. “And then there's like this other part of me that's self-sabotaging, saying, ‘Everything's not perfect and you ruin everything and you're always wrong.’ But then again, getting older and being actually proud of myself has definitely helped me soften up a little bit. So my head is always split like that, so that concept lent itself really neatly to what I was trying to do with the music itself.” HEADSPLIT rounds out with tracks like “24” (featuring Alexis Munroe), chronicling an internal battle with how people perceive you and how you perceive yourself as you grow older and leave the past behind. “Women especially are not afforded the same grace that men are in that regard,” she says, “so I just knew that if I was thinking about it, other people must be, too.” Later, “Hostage” puts self-sabotage in the spotlight, and “Taking Over Me” (featuring Jasiah) recounts a time in Maggie’s life when anxiety would feel overwhelming. “It’s about that feeling of the next day being like, ‘Oh my God, I was so overreacting’” she says. Beyond the creative of the project, Maggie is also holding the reins of its rollout, a strategist from start to finish. I'm not really part of the machine anymore, I've started my own companies with SWIXXZ and swixxzaudio, and with my small team, we've really become our own machine."
