Every time I lose this one hat I got I just buy it again. the other day it flew off my head at the pier and capped the ocean waves. I stood and watched it float for thirty minutes. Every time I search up your name online I just get upset again. Doors close all the time. I remember you asked me if I'd rather be shot or stabbed and I said anyone who'd rather be stabbed is a psycho. Our apartment was sinking slowly for months and neither of us noticed, sitting on the edge of the bed like it was the edge of the world. You remind me of those weather conditions that don't seem possible, like when it rains and the sun's out and driving on the highway feels like rainbow road. The car broke down on the way upstate and the rest of the year became a big question mark in my memory. I turn around and walk backwards.
