Andrew “Scrap” Livingston is a composer, performer, singer/songwriter and sound designer. As an instrumentalist he performs as a cellist, upright bassist, guitarist and keyboardist. Livingston was born in Dallas, Texas. As a child he played the viola and guitar. He studied music theory and composition at Mississippi College with composer James Sclater. He played guitar in jam bands and R&B bands around the deep south as well as cello and bass in chamber orchestras and mixed ensembles. Livingston moved to New York in 2001 to pursue his Masters Degree in Music Composition. Since attaining his master’s degree from CUNY Brooklyn College in 2004, Andrew’s time has been divided between performing around the world and composing for various projects. In 2018 Livingston released the solo concept album “News From the Oort Cloud.” It has been classified as “psychedelic-space-chamber-folk.” Livingston played all the instruments on the record. On the rare occasion that the music has been performed live he has orchestrated it for the specific group of musicians accompanying him. Andrew is a full time founding member of the experimental composer/performer collective Ensemble ThingNY. He has also toured and recorded with singer/songwriter Mike Doughty since 2004. Together they formed the band Ghost of Vroom that has recently released the EP, Ghost of Vroom II. This EP, like most of their work together is at once both strange and accessible.
