Led by the guitarist of extremely popular Indonesian rock band Dewa 19, Andra & the Backbone formed in Jakarta in 2006 under the direction of the aforementioned axeman, Andra Ramadhan. A three-piece, the band's membership was rounded out by Deddi Suryadi and Stevie Item. In 2007, the group -- signed to EMI -- released their first album, Andra & the Backbone.
