About Amsterdam Sinfonietta

Amsterdam Sinfonietta comprises 23 top-level musicians who play together in symbiosis. Led by artistic director Candida Thompson, the orchestra tours all over the world with adventurous programmes and crossovers with other musical genres and art forms. Amsterdam Sinfonietta has evolved into the leading string orchestra of the Netherlands and a world-class orchestra. Amsterdam Sinfonietta has become a regular player in European concert halls, has toured Asia, America and Australia, and has performed in such concert halls as Barbican Hall in London, National Centre of Performing Arts in Beijing, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Konzerthaus in Vienna. The ensemble works with nationally and internationally acclaimed soloists. Musicians such as Janine Jansen, Sol Gabetta, Kian Soltani, Thomas Hampson, Beatrice Rana, Fazil Say and Rufus Wainwright share our curiosity and a constant urge for innovation. Characteristic of Amsterdam Sinfonietta is its innovative programming. Alongside the established string orchestra repertoire, the orchestra presents original and exciting combinations of musical works, connecting old and new music, well-known and unknown repertoire.
