Lecture:The art Collection of Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery

The Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery has a permanent collection of over 500 artworks dating from the 1300s to the present day. This includes paintings from the German, Italian, and Dutch renaissances, English history and landscape paintings and the Pre-Raphaelites . But the focus of this talk is on its Cornish art from John Opie to Tony Foster and everything in between. It has a large collection of works by members of the Newlyn and Lamorna schools, and art by both 19th century artists in St Ives as well as work by the later modernists. It also has work by artists based in Polperro and Falmouth including works by Henry Scott Tuke RA (1858 - 1929). We will also look at how works came into the collection from major donors such as Alfred de Pass (1861 - 1952) to works bought by friends of the artist and works bought by fundraising. One of the largest more recent bequests of the work of Bryan Pearce (1929 - 2007) is also included. This lecture is on Zoom but will be recorded and will be available as a recording on Youtube.
