Ali McGuirk has never been a church mouse. Her 2022 album, Til Itโs Gone, was met with widespread acclaim and praised for its โearthy tenderness and smart introspectionโ (Boston Herald). She now returns with a new album, Watertop, that elevates her signature soulful and smoldering sound to new heightsโthis time, the production is richer, and the message is unflinching.
Itโs hard to pinpoint the exact moment that led to the freedom in McGuirkโs songwriting on โWatertop.โ Perhaps it was when she began treating social activismโand her care for othersโas a spiritual practice. This transformation gave Watertop its raison dโetre, which comes at you quickly with the opening track, โLove Goes First.โ With Watertop McGuirk takes a magnifying glass to the complexities of human and societal value, unraveling the meanings of care, empathy, love, and even greed. At first listen, her words aren't always what they seem. But the richness of McGuirkโs voice, the lucidity of her production, and the power of her delivery guide you to the truth.

A little bit of soul and a whole lotta' rock โnโ roll! Reckoners is an all-star music group featuring some of the top players in the Boston music scene who have worked with and along side some of the best in the business. Fronting the group is the great Tim Gearan on vocals & guitar. Assembled and leading the band is the extraordinary guitarist Johnny Trama (Bettye LaVette, The Silks, Dub Apocalypse, The B3 Kings). Holding down the rhythm section on drums is the masterful Tom Arey (Peter Wolf, The J. Geils Band, G. Love). On bass is the one and only Marc Hickox (Bettye LaVette, Charlie Musselwhite), and on keyboards, the very talented Darby Wolf (Bettye LaVette, Rubblebucket). Paying homage to the roots of early soul and classic rock, their songs and vibe make you experience something new and original yet completely familiar.
