Imsu Choi, Creations, ondes Martenot,
Georgy Sviridov, Cycle of romances “Russia Cast Adrift” arranged for the trio (voice, piano and ondes martenot) by G. Sviridov and songs on poems by Sergei Yesenin.
There is a mirroring of two types of contemporary writing: the experimental writing of Imsu Choi and the neo-romanticism of Georgy Sviridov. The Ondes Martenot and electronics are the musical thread running through these two works, evocative of "home" that is both geographical and internal, dreamed and real, past and present. The evocation of this home calls for the music that composes and characterizes it.
These two pieces carry within them the traditional music of each, South Korea and Russia. Traditional music is here fused with modern music, but is perceived in the colors, textures, and harmonies.
Introducing the piece "Sueño de selva" (Sueño de selva) immerses us in the Colombian origins of composer Pedro García Velásquez.
