PIONEER MOTHERS FALL W**d WRANGLE – OCTOBER 29TH
Paoli, IN
Join the Orange County Invasives Partnership (OCIP) and Hoosier National Forest, Wednesday October 29th, 10am-Noon, for a hands-on volunteer workday at the Pioneer Mothers Memorial Forest, on State Road 37 just south of Paoli. Learn how to identify and remove woody invasive plants like Burning Bush. No experience is needed to participate, but volunteers should come prepared with sturdy shoes, long sleeves, and work gloves. Water and hand tools will be provided.
While Burning Bush is a popular landscaping shrub known for its fall color, it is highly invasive. Similar to well known invasive shrubs like honeysuckle and autumn olive, burning bush can grow into large and dense thickets, outcompeting native plants for space and light. They invade a variety of habitats, even heavily shaded woodlands, and degrade wildlife habitat.
Following the W**d Wrangle, volunteers are also invited to join OCIP members at the Orange County SWCD Office (573 SE Main Street Paoli, IN) for a lunchtime planning meeting.
RSVPs are encouraged, but not required. For questions, or to RSVP, contact the Orange County Soil & Water Conservation District at
