Whistle While You Heal - Twerk & Healing Circle

1 events

Hey Beautiful Souls, My name is Jaz (she/her); I am the founder & instructor of Whistle While You Heal - Twerk & Healing Circle. Twerking is usually described as some inappropriate trend that belongs at the club, in the bedroom, or nowhere at all. Let me put you on game - twerking ACTUALLY has roots in cultural dances from Africa such as Mapouka (brought to you by the women of Cote d’Ivoire in West Africa)! We have been taught that embracing and learning our bodies unapologetically is wrong - a symptom of Anti-Blackness. I created Whistle While You Heal to remind folks that twerking is an ancestral and deeply spiritual practice that can help us heal especially when done in community; this ain't nothing new! It is also a space to acknowledge how body shame and oppression impact our livelihood and wellness. Are you feeling ready to throw it back for yourself and your ancestors? Join us on Saturday, 12/10 & 12/17, 12:00 pm @ COLLAB Dance Studio & Creative Space. We also have a virtual twerk & healing circle on 12/19 at 6:00 pm PST. I hope to twerk & rejoice with you soon

Northwest Trail Alliance

4 events

Mountain biking requires riders to confront their fears, biases, and preconceived notions: we know what it feels like to be fearful, uncomfortable, and out of our element while on a ride. While we believe that everyone's barriers should be respected, we know that mutual support will help get us past those barriers. We must boost each other up and push ourselves to improve both on and off the bike. NWTA wants a world where everyone feels welcome, safe, and free in the outdoors. As an organization, the NWTA is committed to creating a pathway to nature for everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, faith, and country of origin.
