Founded in 1865 by formerly enslaved families, the Royal community stands as one of the nation’s last remaining African American settlements established during the Reconstruction era. Known for its ties to the original “40 Acres and A Mule” designation, Royal is rich with heritage, resilience, and cultural pride.
Visitors can explore over 3500 acres of history, preserved by descendants of the original landowners who continue to safeguard Royal’s legacy. From historical landmarks to community storytelling, every tour is a journey into the strength and spirit of a people who have never stopped honoring their roots.
The cost of the tour is $10.00 and if you want to enjoy a bountiful lunch afterwards the additional cost is $20.00. So $30.00 in total.
