We are excited to welcome Joseph all the way from St. Louis - please help us bring him a big warm OCTC welcome for the closing of this really special show.
About the exhibition:
Memoirs, Whispers, & Daydreams is a compilation of drawings by regional artist Joseph Jesse Ovalle. His drawings depict local landscapes throughout the Midwest and are a reflection on love, loss, climate change, adventure, and healing. Through the use
of fundamental mark making, design and pattern, he explores various interpretations of his journeys and connection to the land: a form of love that is ever changing, exploratory, and fun.
The presented landscapes are witnesses to a changing climate and an always changing audience. By drawing them, he depicts his perceptions and vulnerability of the world. The act of drawing becomes a journey, an adventure into memory, observation, and imagination.
The process is both deeply healing and a timestamp of what was. In each drawing, there is a conversation between place and self—a reminder that the land holds stories of resilience, history and transformation, just as we do.
