Book Discussion / Theater Performance:
“A Monster Calls” By Patrick Ness
Book Discussion:
Cost: $10
Date: Tuesday, October 7th, 6pm-7:30pm
Join us to read and discuss this metaphorical tale of loss and grief. The story addresses one child’s journey with anticipatory grief as he processes his mother’s cancer and pending death. While this is a heavy topic, it depicts the real life event of death written to prompt discussion and self interpretation… and through the eyes of a teenager.
When you register, you will receive the book and a discussion guide. Both available in church office. The book explores themes of isolation, acceptance, and the power of storytelling.
The story is applicable to teens, and so ages 13 and up are welcome.
Lunch and Theater Performance:
Cost of Play: Free
Lunch at Cosettas: You only have to pay for your lunch.
Date: Saturday, October 11th, 11am-4:30pm.
We will travel to St. Paul Academy for lunch, and to see a production of “A Monster Calls”, directed by Ed Williams, Middle School Theater Director. It is an opportunity for comparison and to experience the director’s interpretation of the show as performed through teens.
