Janet Newman is a New Zealand poet whose work reflects nature, rural life, history, and belonging. Raised on a dairy farm here in Horowhenua, her writing is closely tied to the landscapes and rhythms of rural Aotearoa.

Her debut poetry collection Unseasoned Campaigner (OUP, 2021) received wide acclaim for its lyrical exploration of land, memory, and identity. Janet also contributed to Koe: an Aotearoa ecopoetry anthology (2024), a landmark collection celebrating diverse New Zealand voices. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Massey University and has published research on New Zealand and environmental literature.
