From breakcore chaos as Babyshaker to dark, experimental drum’n’bass as Blockdata — Gavin Hislop’s return to Oslo is two decades in the making. Expect sharp sound design and raw intensity.
Back in the Myspace days around 2006, crew member Ars Dada stumbled across a producer going by the name Babyshaker, making some of the most insane breakcore he had ever heard. He booked him to Oslo with the Oslo Break Fest crew, which led to countless gigs and even a European tour together. Almost 20 years later, the circle closes — Gavin Hislop returns to Oslo, this time under the moniker Blockdata.
Blockdata is a multifaceted electronic music project driven by sound designer and producer Gavin Hislop. After a decade and a half as Babyshaker, Blockdata was born out of the urge to push into new and diverse directions. His music now thrives in the darker, experimental corners of drum and bass — spastic, neuro-esque, high-energy and meticulously designed.
On stage, Blockdata delivers fluid, fast-paced live performances using a range of his own custom-built software tools to mix and remix both his own tracks and those of his peers. The result is intense, unpredictable and uncompromising.
Blockdata’s releases have landed on heavyweight labels including PRSPCT Recordings, Industrial Strength, Triple G, Othercide Recordings, OHM Resistance and Close2Death, across vinyl, CD and digital formats.
Now, nearly two decades after his first Oslo appearance, he returns with a new name, a new sound, and the same uncompromising attitude that first made him stand out.
