Game Poems: Masterclass w. Jordan Magnuson

In this hands-on masterclass, experimental game maker Jordan Magnuson will guide participants through the process of creating "game poems"--small, personal videogames that prioritize simple graphics and metaphoric meaning. Using free and accessible web-based tools, attendees will learn how to craft tiny expressive games in a similar fashion to how you might jot down a haiku or doodle on a napkin.

Participants will leave the workshop with a completed "game poem" of their own, along with the skills and knowledge to continue exploring this unique form of creative expression. No prior programming or game development experience is required, making this class suitable for anyone interested in experimenting with digital storytelling and short-form game creation.

Jordan Magnuson is a long-time creator of experimental videogames, and author of the book, Game Poems: Videogame Design as Lyric Practice. He is particularly interested in exploring how videogames can express human experience in poetic and culturally resonant ways, and in championing game creation as an inclusive and accessible form of creative expression.
