Kunsthall Oslo inviterer til kunstnerpresentasjon og åpen samtale med Margaret Abeshu Leversby i forbindelse med utstillingen Reality is Radical. Programmet tar form som en opplesning av en ny essaytekst, samt en kort videokollasj som vises i loop. Presentasjonen foregår på engelsk, mens samtalen kan foregå både på norsk og engelsk.
Reality is Radical tar utgangspunkt i en kritisk og selvrefleksiv undersøkelse av kunstnerens egen posisjon og praksis. Spørsmålet som ligger til grunn er enkelt, men grunnleggende: Hva er det jeg er med på å reprodusere? Hvilke ideer, strukturer og fortellinger forsterker jeg, selv når jeg forsøker å kritisere dem? Utstillingen peker både på ideologisk svik og samtidens blindsoner, men også på behovet for struktur, klarhet og en form for felles fornuft. Det handler ikke om å forkaste systemer i seg selv, men om å se hvordan maktens estetikk og kulturelle koder ofte dekker over ansvarsfraskrivelse, forvirring og fragmentering.
Etter opplesningen inviteres publikum til en uformell dialog, der spørsmål, tanker og assosiasjoner kan deles fritt. Arrangementet er tenkt som et åpent og inkluderende møtepunkt mellom kunstner, publikum og de underliggende ideene som preger arbeidene.
Margaret Abeshu Leversby (NO/ET, f. 1990) er en Oslo-basert designer og billedkunstner som arbeider på tvers av installasjon, skulptur, tekst og video. Gjennom en materialbasert og teoriforankret praksis undersøker hun hvordan dominerende ideologier utviklet gjennom estetiske tradisjoner, kunnskapssystemer og kulturell produksjon preger vårt forhold til den materielle virkeligheten, og hvordan slike strukturer opprettholdes gjennom repetisjon, løfter og symbolsk reparasjon. Hun har en mastergrad i design (klesdesign og kostymedesign) fra Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo (KHiO). Arbeidene hennes er vist ved blant annet Norsk Billedhoggerforening, EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art (Finland), Østlandsutstillingen, Fotogalleriet, Kunstnernes Hus, Nasjonalmuseet, MUNCH, Kiosken Studio og Oslo Runway.

Kunsthall Oslo invites you to an artist presentation and open conversation with Margaret Abeshu Leversby, in connection with the exhibition Reality is Radical. The program consists of a live reading of a new essay text, together with a short video-collage shown on loop. The presentation will be held in English, while the conversation may take place in both Norwegian and English.
Reality is Radical begins with a critical and self-reflective examination of the artist’s own position and practice. The guiding question is simple yet fundamental: What am I helping to reproduce? Which ideas, structures and narratives do I reinforce, even when I try to criticize them? The exhibition points to ideological betrayal and the contemporary blind spots that shape our thinking, while also emphasizing the need for structure, clarity and a shared sense of reason. It is not about rejecting systems as such but about recognizing how the aesthetics of power and cultural codes often obscure responsibility, confusion and fragmentation.
The event is intended as an open and inclusive meeting point between the artist, the audience, and the underlying ideas that shape the works.
Margaret Abeshu Leversby (NO/ET, b. 1990) is an Oslo-based designer and visual artist working across installation, sculpture, text and moving image. Through a material- and theory-based practice, she examines how dominant ideologies shaped by inherited aesthetics, systems of knowledge and cultural production mediate our relation to material reality, and how those structures are maintained through repetition, promise and symbolic repair. She holds a Master in (Clothing Design and Costume Design) from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO). Her work has been presented at Norsk Billedhoggerforening, EMMA–Espoo Museum of Modern Art (Finland), Østlandsutstillingen, Fotogalleriet, Kunstnernes Hus, the National Museum, MUNCH, Kiosken Studio and Oslo Runway.
