Orr Area Firefighter I/II & HazMat Operator Initial

Start Your Fire Service Journey in Orr, Minnesota

Orr Fire Department is hosting a comprehensive Firefighter I/II & HazMat Operations hybrid course, ideal for new firefighters preparing to enter the fire service with confidence and skill. This program features flexible online coursework paired with two intensive skills weekends focused on real-world fireground operations.

Online learning begins mid January and must be completed prior to the in-person weekends.

Training Schedule:
• Friday: 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
• Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
• Sunday: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Location: Orr Fire Department

Attendance at both weekends is required for completion.

• Interior fire attack and nozzle control
• SCBA use, confidence, and survival drills
• Search and rescue fundamentals
• Forcible entry using halligans, axes, and K-tools
• Ladder operations and ventilation
• Hose deployment and advancement
• Fire behavior and tactical considerations
• Fireground communication, teamwork, and accountability

• Recognizing hazardous materials
• Identifying risks
• Establishing operational perimeters
• Defensive actions to protect responders and the public

• Meets practical skills requirements for Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and HazMat Operations
• Heavy focus on realistic, hands-on fireground skill building
• Ideal for new recruits and departments preparing members for operational readiness
