Dynamic Figure Drawing In Charcoal - Taught By Amanda Seckington
Learn the basics of figure drawing in this 2 and a half hour charcoal, dynamic gesture drawing workshop taught by local artist, Amanda Seckington.
This course is for the absolute beginner to those with a moderate amount of artistic experience looking to gain more confidence in their life drawing skills, esp the human form. We’ll work from printouts for reference so participants can work their way up to life models. Besides improving your mark-making skills, you’ll strengthen your hand to eye coordination and learn how to say more with less by breaking complex imagery like hands and faces into simple shapes and lines. Afterall, half of learning how to draw isn’t just the marks you put on the paper but learning how to truly observe, not just ‘see.’
The class setting will take place in the CityArts gallery. A gorgeous, historical landmark in the heart of downtown Orlando. CityArts, in conjunction with the Downtown Arts District is a non-profit organization that fosters the development and exposure of emerging and established artists alike. This class is limited to 15 participants ages 14+.
Materials required for the class:
-The largest sketchbook you can hold comfortably in your lap.
This is what I recommend ($8).
But any medium-large sketchbook will do. Charcoal and drawing supplies will be provided.
The session will start out with a demonstration by the artist (me) and then we will create 7-8, 7 min quick, gesture drawings. I will be walking around during this time giving one on one feedback and tips. From there you will choose your most successful drawings and add more shading and detail. The last 20 minutes you can mingle and share and discuss your drawings.
About the Artist:
Amanda Seckington
I have been dedicated to my art practice since I found painting as a therapeutic outlet when I was 16 years old. I graduated from the Ringling College of Art & Design with a BFA in 2010. After graduation, I was asked to teach at the Teen Studios summer program on campus after graduation and immediately found the experience to be rewarding. Since then I have taught as both a private art teacher and a public school visual arts teacher for grades 6-12. As a collector of odd jobs and freelance projects to keep the lights on, and continually developing my personal art practice and interests, I have come to be acquainted with many varying artistic techniques and mediums. Some of these include painting, drawing, sewing, digital media, photography, package-design, clay, jewelry, and most recently I have been learning stained-glass.
