World Sake Day NYC was founded and conceptualized by Mika Furuya in 2021. The inaugural event took place that same year at Mika’s own venue, MIKA Bar in Bushwick, Brooklyn, in collaboration with Shinobu Kato of Kato Sake Works.The first edition featured 12 sakes from four companies: Kato Sake Works, Gosakeman, Kubota, and Skurnik Wines, drawing over 300 attendees. Since then, the event has grown steadily in both size and impact.Now in its fifth year under Mika Furuya’s stewardship, World Sake Day NYC proudly showcases over 70 sakes from 40 breweries across Japan and the United States.The mission of World Sake Day NYC is to elevate awareness and appreciation of the rich history, dedicated people, and vibrant culture behind Japanese craft sake. The event brings guests face-to-face with the artisans and experts of the sake world, offering a unique opportunity to taste, learn, and connect directly with the makers of this traditional beverage.
