I didn’t grow up thinking, one day I am going to make art with fish. That changed one day when I landed my first bluefin tuna. It wasn’t a giant at 64lbs but it sure was memorable! I can recall every detail about that fish, the trip and the incredible time on the tiny 21’ boat that got the job done in the canyons off the coast of New Jersey. I asked the captain for the tail to commemorate the trip, made my first print with “borrowed” acrylic ink and some sketch paper. The rest is history. The print came out poorly, but I loved the seemingly perfect imperfections that were directly taken off the fish’s tail. The details were incredible. Needless to say, I was totally hooked, pun intended. To this day that when I look at the printed bluefin tail hanging on the wall of my office, I am reminded of the awesome experience I had on the water with friends.In my processes, I strive to honor the fish completely. I always use non-toxic ink, clean and rinse the fish, and harvest each specimen with extreme care. I have returned clean, boneless filets from 100% of the fish I have possessed. I vacuum seal the filets and return them as soon as possible fresh or frozen. My door is always open. This is my practice.I have refined my skillset to print with professional quality inks and use the highest quality materials to deliver extremely sharp detail to exact customer specifications.
