The Willowbrook Legacy Project (WLP) works to commemorate the history and legacy of the Willowbrook State School Site, which now houses the College of Staten Island/CUNY. From 1947 to 1975 the Willowbrook State School was the world’s largest institution to house persons diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Its closing as a result of advocacy for the rights of its residents is a significant landmark in disability history.
