Follow The Texas Mahjong CollectiveMarilyn Carson and Shannon Jeter started their company The Texas Mahjong Collective to bring the joy of American Mahjong to new players in a fun, approachable way. We offer private lessons to small groups of 8 or 16, where learning feels personal, relaxed, and hands-on.What started as curiosity turned into a passion—and eventually, a purpose. After a rocky first lesson, Mahjong didn’t immediately capture our hearts. But months later, thanks to the patient guidance of a friend’s in-laws who had played for decades, everything changed. The tiles came to life, and what began as a weekly game between four friends quickly became something much more.Inspired by how the game brought people together, We both became certified instructors with Oh My Mahjong and launched our collaborative company as a way to teach others the game in a more approachable and social setting. Together, we host monthly 101 and 102 lessons at local venues throughout North Houston, keeping class sizes small—just 16 students—to ensure everyone walks away confident in the basics and excited to keep playing. In 2025, we proudly partnered with The Mahjong League to launch the Texas Bluebonnet Mahjong League—the first official league chapter in Texas. Our inaugural Fall League kicks off this September and wraps up with the Championship on November 4th.Whether you’re brand new to the game or ready to take your skills to the next level, we’re here to make Mahjong approachable, social, and seriously fun.
