Born from Mychael Wright's vision in 2002, the Selby Ave JazzFest aimed to rekindle community spirit in St. Paul's Selby and Rondo neighborhoods during a somber post-9/11 period. What started as a modest gathering of 600 attendees quickly blossomed into a signature St. Paul event, drawing up to 12,000 people. In 2024, Mychael and Stephanie Wright passed the torch to Walker|West, a renowned music school, ensuring the festival's future aligns with their mission to foster healing and community engagement through both music education and performance. The Selby Ave JazzFest continues its vibrant legacy, celebrating jazz and bringing people together.
