In 2018, Angélique and Christophe De Oliveira moved to Portugal because of Chris's Portuguese roots. They fell in love with Faro, a city in the Algarve, and decided to promote its Modernist architecture.In 2021, they opened The Modernist hotel in Faro (www.themodernist.pt). Everything in the hotel, from design to production, is proudly Portuguese and mostly sourced from the Algarve, just 100 kilometers away. This unique concept quickly became famous for Architecture Travel in Europe, getting featured in Forbes, Monocle, National Geographic, Elle Decor.They created a Modernist architecture tour book of Faro to teach people about the Algarve's architecture. Now, they're planning the second Modernist Weekend, a three-day event celebrating Modernist architecture through art, tours, open houses, and networking.
