About The Lyre Magazine

What is The Lyre?Publishing since 2010, The Lyre Magazine is an annual student-led literary journal, supported by SFU's Department of World Languages and Literatures. The lyrebird we are named after is a poised mimic, and in its call incorporates the resonances of the world that surrounds it. Yet, its intention is not to blend, but to challenge. The sounds it reproduces are beyond that of other birds, other machines, and rather than simple reproduction, its songs tells that it cannot be bested. Like the bird – we amplify the diverse and magnetic emerging literary voices from SFU and beyond.Focus and ScopeThe Lyre Magazine publishes work by undergraduate writers and artists and SFU graduates. Non-undergraduate students who are not SFU students may also submit; priority will be given to undergrads. We accept short stories, essays, translations, poetry, prose, short-form graphic novels, travelogues, plays and monologues, and other written genres, as well as photography and visual artwork.Open Access PolicyThis journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
