Follow The Huron Historical SocietyThe Huron Historical Society offers free history programs to the community. Past programs include the histories of the Lake Shore Electric, early businesses, and neighborhoods. We have produced several documentaries including Downtown Interrupted: The History of Urban Renewal; The History of the Huron Docks; The History of the Lake Shore Electric Interurban Railway; and most recently From Fire Brigades to Sophisticated Fire Apparatus: A History of the Men and Women of the Huron Fire Department. All are available on YouTube. We videotaped a program called An Afternoon in the Huron Cemetery, which featured actors telling the stories of several of the Huronites interred there, which is also available on YouTube. Several years ago, we received a $10,000 grant from a private foundation to create Explore Huron, a section on our website (thehuronhistoricalsociety.org) that uses videos, photos and narrative to detail Huron’s history. We have collaborated with the Huron Public Library on various projects, including a series of oral histories (also available on YouTube), and local history programs. We have conducted walking tours of Huron’s downtown, river front, houses and churches.
