Follow The GameChangers 2.0Profile for Vic BaxterCareer / employment to date- Early careers in oil and gas embraced subsea engineering, operations and employee engagement, over two decades with several multi-national organisations, (Hawker Siddeley Power, Vickers Oceanics, Wharton Williams Diving, Shell Exploration and Exxon Production and Research Company).- Launching the Integrated Management Systems (IMS) company, which delivered a range of Training, Consultancy and Materials (TCM) enabling the attainment of Management Standards in HR (IIP), Quality (ISO 9000), Environment (ISO 14000) and Safety (OHSAS 18000) comprised the following decade.- A move into Career Management and Outplacement ensued with Group Accord, Right Management Consultants and Drake Beam Morin Inc. Launch of Quo Vadis Ventures then served to take these skills overseas.- Assignments with Scottish Development International and United Kingdom Trade and Investment (now the Department of Business and Trade) followed, enabling 136 companies to venture overseas.- A global remit with SABIC (www.sabic.com) ensued, embracing 33,000 employees, in 50 countries, over 30 months, based in the HQ in Riyadh, delivering local content through the launch of 1,057 enterprises under the auspices of The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.Throughout this time I have maintained journals which I am now developing into a number of memoirs, personal development books and novellas.Background- Brought up in Kenya, I moved to UK to study engineering in Loughborough. I then gravitated north to Aberdeen with stop offs in Barrow in Furness, Great Yarmouth and Edinburgh, before joining Shell. Assignments in UK, USA, Holland and Norway followed.- Since leaving Shell I have consulted for most Oil and Gas majors in USA, South America, The Caspian, the four corners of Africa and The Middle East.- I have two youngsters from my late wife, Dr Linda Sutherland, Alasdair who farms in Bieldside and Laura, who works in Occupational Health.AchievementsBusiness- Project managed the building of a $24 million subsea robot, with two colleagues, at General Electric Manipulators Division in Pennsylvania.- Operated a £42 million a year diving barge, Stadive, for three years, with a team of 128 onboard, improving its efficiency from 64% to 85% during that time.- Collected and commissioned a £96 million semi-submersible diving barge from Messrs Rauma Repola in Pori, Finland, dealing with warranty claims, icefloe damage and shipping 150 tonnes of seawater en route to Aberdeen.Resilience- Completed Enduro Africa, Durban to Port Elizabeth, one thousand miles, offroad, on Honda 230 XLs, with 99 other riders, in eight days.- Gold medal for 400 metre swim at Peterhead “Special Olympics”.- Overnight stay in Voi Police Station, Kenya, after jumping off a moving train, fined Kshs 30 and riding a Honda 160 a hundred miles home with a dislocated right shoulder.Family- Persuaded my physician to marry me.- Fathered Ali and Laura who are the lights of my life.- Embraced polio, epilepsy, autism and unipolar disorder within our small family.Track record or goals in books and publishing- Nearing completion of my memoir “From Under an African Sky” which is a trilogy of:o The Colonialo The Corporateo The Consultant- Further titles emerging from the memoir.- Career Pit Stop. Available 20/1/2025.Clients and delegates I have delivered training programs to- 141 Oil industry Chief Executives wishing to achieve management standards in Heath, Safety, Environment and Human Resources.- 54 Engineers wishing to embark on consulting careers- Over 2,000 redundant employees seeking fresh employment.- 55 Consultants prior to their delivery to 3,100 employees.What I will bring to the workshop- The ability to discover the aims of each delegate through structured enquiry and active listening.- Discussion and debate of all challenges arising, aimed at developing potential solutions to each.- Examples through anecdotes, metaphors and storytelling to light the way through the curriculum.- Some exercises to evoke and awaken feelings and thoughts aimed at creating a call to action with your writings.
